[ἔδοξε τῶι δάμωι]vacat 0,05τῶι Ἁλ[ασ]αρ[νιτ]ᾶ[ν, ναποῖαι εἶπαν Νίκαρχος Χ]α̣ρμίπ̣[που, Τιμασικλῆς]Ἡρακλείτου, Νοσσύ[λος Πολυμνάστου]· ἐπειδὴ Θε̣υκ̣[λῆς διατελεῖ]τὸν εὐνούστατον τρόπο[ν δ]ιακείμενος ποτὶ τὸν δᾶμον τ[ὸν Ἁλασαρ]–νιτᾶν κρίνων καθῆκον ἦμεν ἐν τοῖς ἀναγκαιοτάτοις τῶγ καιρῶ[ν ἀ]–ποδείξεις ποιεῖσθαι τᾶς αὑτοῦ αἱρέσιος ἔν τε τῶι Κρητικῶι πολέμ[ωι][ἰδ]ὼν τὸς ἐπικαιροτάτος τῶν τόπων ἀνωχύρος ἐόντας καὶ ποτιδεομ[ένος][β]οαθείας, ψαφιξάμενος καὶ πορίσας εἰς ταῦτα χρήματα προενοιήθη τοῦ̣ [κα]–τὰ τάχος ἀποχυρωθέντος τοῦ περιπολίου ἐν ἀσφαλείαι ὑπάρχεν τὸς κα–τοι[κο]ῦντας μετὰ τέκνων καὶ γυναικῶν, προενοιήθη δὲ καὶ τῶν ἄλλωντῶν διατεινόντων εἰς τὰν Ἁλασαρνιτᾶν ἀσφάλειάν τε καὶ σωτηρίαν,σπουδᾶς καὶ φιλοτιμίας οὐθὲν ἐνλείπων· ἔν τε τῶι συνεστακότι πολέ–μωι προορώμενος τάν τε τῶν ἐναντίων ἐπιβολὰν καὶ τὸ μέγεθος τοῦκινδύνου πεπόρικε πλῆθος ἱκανὸν χρημάτων εἴς τε τὰν ἐπιμέλειανκαὶ κατασκευὰν τῶν τειχέων· σπεύδων τε καὶ εἰς τὸν μετὰ ταῦταχρόνον ἄθικτον τὰν ὑποθήκαν τοῖς περιπολίοις ὑπάρχεν, πεπολίτευταισυνφέρουσαν καὶ δυνατὰν διοίκησιν ποιησάμενος κατὰ τῶν ἀπειθούν–των τοῖς δόγμασιν τᾶς ἐκκλησίας· τῶν τε ὑπεναντίων ἐπιβαλομένωνλ̣έμβοις τε καὶ ἄλλοις πλοίοις καὶ πλήοσιν ἐπί τε τὰν πόλιν καὶ τὰν χώραν,ψαφιζόμενος περί τε τῶν ἄλλων τῶν διατεινόντων ποτὶ τὰν κοινὰν ἀσ–φάλειάν τε καὶ σωτηρίαν καὶ περὶ τᾶς κατὰ γράμμα πάλιν ἐσσευμένας φυ–λακᾶς ἀπέλυσε τὸς δαμότας τᾶς κατὰ πόλιν φυλακᾶς, νομίζων δεῖνμένοντας ἐπὶ τῶν ἰδίων τόπων συνδιατηρῆσαι τὰ φρούρια, ἀκολούθωςδὲ τᾶι τῶν καιρῶν περιστάσει καθιστὰς φυλακὰν τᾶς πόλιος ἐφρόντιξεντὸν ἐκτενέστατον τρόπον καὶ τοῦ περιπολίου, ποτίθεσιν ποιησάμενοςτοῦ τε πλήθους τῶν φυλάκων καὶ τᾶς μισθοδοσίας· ἐμβολᾶν τε γινομενᾶνἐς τὰν χώραν συνγράφων περὶ προφυλακᾶς ἱππέων τε καὶ πεζῶν προε–νοιήθη καὶ τᾶς Ἁλασαρνιτᾶν ἀσφαλείας, ποτίταγμα δοὺς τοῖς ἐπὶ τού–των τεταγμένοις συνδιατηρῆσαι τὸς τόπος, ἐπελθόντων δὲ καὶτῶν δαμοτᾶν ἐπί τε τὰν βουλὰν καὶ τὸν πάντα δᾶμον καὶ ἀπολογιξαμέ–νων ἃ μὲν ἀχρεῶσθαι τῶν ὅπλων, ἃ δὲ καὶ ποτιδεῖσθαι τὸ παράπαν κα–τασκευᾶς, προαιρεύμενος κατὰ δύναμιν τὰν αὑτοῦ πάντα πράσ–σεν τὰ συνφέροντα τῶι δάμωι, πεπόρικε χρήματα εἰς τὸν καθοπλισ–μὸν τῶν τεταγμένων ἐπὶ τᾶς φυλακᾶς τοῦ περιπολίου, προχρησαμένο[υ]τε τοῦ σύμπαντος δάμου τὰ ὑπάρχοντα ξύλα εἰς τὰν κατασκευὰντᾶς στοᾶς εἰς τὰς τοῦ πολέμου χρείας, ἐφρόντιξεν περὶ τᾶς ἀποκατ̣[α]–στάσιος, προεισευπορήσας ἐκ τῶν ἰδίων ἄτοκα τὰ χρήματα, ἔν τε τοῖς ἄλ–λοις τοῖς διατείνουσιν ποτὶ τὰν φυλακὰν καὶ ἀσφάλειαν διατελεῖ πάντα τὰ δυνα–τὰ καὶ πράσ<σ>ων καὶ γράφων· ὅπως οὖν καὶ ὁ̣ δᾶμος ὁ Ἁλασαρνιτᾶν, καθότι πάτρι–όν ἐστιν αὐτῶι, φαίνηται τοὺς ἀγαθοὺς τῶν ἀνδρῶν τιμῶν καταξίως τῶνγινομένων εἰς αὑτὸν εὐεργετημάτων, Θευκλῆς τε τυχὼν τῶν τιμ[ί]–ων πολὺ προθυμότερον αὑτὸν παρέχηται εἰς τὰ τοῦ δάμου χρήσιμα, vac.δεδόχθαι ἐπαινέσαι Θευκλῆ Ἀγλάου ἀρετᾶς ἕνεκα καὶ εὐνοίας τᾶς ἔς [τε]πολίτας πάντας καὶ ἐς τὸν δᾶμον τὸν Ἁλασαρνιτᾶν, στεφανῶσαι δὲ αὐ–[τὸν] στεφάνωι χρυσέωι ἀπὸ χρυσῶν Ἀλεξα<ν>δρείων ν´ , τοὶ δὲ ναποῖα̣[ι][ἐγ]δόντω ἀναγράψαι τὸ ψάφισμα τόδε εἰστάλαν λιθίναν καὶ ἀναθέντω̣[ἐν] τῶι ἱερῶι τοῦ Ἀπόλλωνος τοῦ ἐν Ἁλασάρναι εἰς τὸν ἐπιφανέ– vac.[σ]τ̣ατον τόπον. vacat

Beschluss des Demosvacat 0,05von Halasarna, der Tempelpfleger Nikarchos S.d. Charmippos, TimasiklesS.d. Herakleitos, Nossylos S.d. Polymnastos stellten den Antrag: Da Theokles sich fortgesetztin der wohlwollendsten Weise gegenüber dem Demos von Halasarnaerzeigt in der Meinung, dass es sich ziemt, gerade in Zeiten höchster Gefahrden Beweis seiner Gesinnung abzulegen; und als er im Kretischen Kriegsah, dass die gefährdetsten Plätze unbefestigt waren und des Schutzes ermangelten,er durch Herbeiführung eines Beschlusses und Beschaffung von Geldern hierfür Vorsorge traf,dass das Fort eilends befestigt wurde und die Bewohner mit Frauen und Kindernin Sicherheit waren; er auch Vorsorge traf für (all) das andere, waszur Sicherheit und Rettung der Halasarniten diente,wobei er es nicht an Eifer und Ehrgeiz fehlen ließ; und in dem ausgebrochenen Krieg,da er voraussah den Angriff der Gegner und der Größe derGefahr, er eine hinreichende Menge Geldes für die Instandhaltungund Wiederherstellung der Mauern beschaffte; und in dem Bestreben, auch für die Zukunftdie dafür reservierte Summe den Forts unangetastet zu erhalten, er als Mitglied der Bürgerschafteine nützliche und wirksame Maßregel traf gegen die, die denBeschlüssen der Volksversammlung nicht gehorchten; und als dann die Gegnermit Schnellschiffen und anderen Schiffen in größerer Anzahl einen Angriff gegen die Stadt (Kos) unddas Land machten, er durch Herbeiführung von Beschlüssen über anderes, was auf dieallgemeine Sicherheit und Rettung Bezug hatte, und speziell über den künftig wieder nach demAlphabet zu erfolgenden Wachdienst die Demoten von der Bewachung der Stadt befreite, weil er esfür notwendig hielt, dass sie an ihren eigenen Plätzen blieben und gemeinsam die Kastelle hielten,er aber Sorge trug, je nach Situation Wachen für die Stadt und gleichzeitigin ausgedehntester Weise für das Fort einrichte, indem er die Zahl derWächter und die Höhe des Soldes vergrößerte; und als dann Einfälle in das Landgebietstattfanden, er in der Dienstanweisung für den Vorpostendienst der Reiter und Fußsoldatenauch Vorsorge traf für die Sicherheit der Halasarniten durch Befehl an die Vorgesetztendieser (Einheiten), gemeinsam die Plätze zu halten; und als die Demengenossen sichan den Rat und das ganze Volk (der Koer) wandten und aufzählten,welche Waffen unbrauchbar geworden seien, welche gänzlich der Instandsetzungbedürften, er in der Absicht, nach allen seinen Kräften das zu tun,was dem Demos nütze, Gelder beschafft hat zur Bewaffnungdes Kommandos für die Bewachung des Forts; und als das gesamte Volk (der Koer)die für die Errichtung einer Halle vorhandenen Hölzer bereits im Vorausfür die Bedürfnisse des Krieges verbraucht hatte, er Vorsorge für ihre Wiederbeschaffung traf,indem er das Geld aus seinem eigenen Vermögen ohne Zinsen vorschoss; und er auch in (all)dem anderen, was auf Bewachung und Sicherheit Bezug hat, beständig alles, was möglich war,in Tat und Schrift wirkte; – Damit nun auch der Demos von Halasarna, wie es althergebracht ist,in sichtbarer Weise die vortrefflichen Männer ehrt in einer der an ihm geschehenenWohltaten würdigen Weise, Theokles aber angesichts der Ehrungensich noch viel bereitwilliger für das Interesse des Demos einsetze,wolle man beschließen: dass man Theokles S. d. Aglaos belobige wegen seiner Verdienste und seinesWohlwollens gegenüber allen Bürgern und gegenüber dem Demos von Halasarna; dass man ihnbekränze mit goldenem Kranz im Werte von 50 Alexander-Goldstücken. Die Tempelpflegersollen verdingen, diesen Beschluss aufzuzeichnen auf eine steinerne Stele verdingen und sollenihn weihen im dem Heiligtum des Apollon in Halasarna an den hervorragendstenPlatz.

Decree of the demevacat 0,05of the Halasarnans, the sacral-administrators Nikarchos son of Charmippos, Timasiklesson of Herakleitos, Nossylos son of Polymnastos proposed: inasmuch as Theukles conducts himselfin the most devoted way to the deme of the Halasarnansjudging that in the most difficult of times it is appropriateto make demonstrations of his attitude; and in the Cretan war whenhe saw that the most strategic of our places were unfortified and in need ofhelp, he obtained a decree and conveyed money for these things and saw to it thatthe fortress was quickly strengthened and the inhabitants with their children and wiveswere secure; and he saw to the other mattersthat concerned the defense and security of the Halasarnans,omitting nothing of zeal and public spirit; also in in the present war,anticipating the attack of the enemy and the degree ofdanger, he has supplied a sufficient sum of money for the careand repair of the walls; and eager too that in futuretimes the fand for the fortresses remain untouched, he has gotten legislatedthe making of an advantageous and powerful procedure against those who would disobeythe hisees of the assembly; and when the enemy withfast ships and other boats and in large numbers set upon the city and territory,he had a decree passed concerning other matters pertinent to the commondefense and security, and in particular with the guard henceforth stationed alphabeticallyhe freed the demesmen from guard duty in the city (Kos), thinking it necessary thatin staying in their own places they would together protect the watchtowers, and so in keeping withthe circumstances of the time he established a guard for the city and designedthe most serviceable arrangement also for the fortress, producing an increasein both the number of guards and of the mercenary force; and when attacks were madeon the territory, enrolling for defense both cavalry and foot soldiers he saw tothe security of the Halasarnans, giving orhiss to those incommand of these to coordinate protection of the places; and whenthe demesment came to the council and entire (Koan) people and spoke onthe useless condition of their weapons and the general need of equipment,urging to the best of his power to bring about everythingthat was advantageous to the deme he has procured money for the armingof those stationed to guard the fortress; and as the entire (Koan)people had used up the available lumber for the constructionof the stoa in the context of the needs of the war he took under his own care the restoration,supplying in advance from his own funds interest-free money; and in other waysthat pertain to guarding and security he acts to accomplish whatever is possible,in word and deed; so that therefore the deme of the Halasarnans, as is itstradition, may be manifest honoring good men in a manner worthyof the benefactions done to it and so that Theokles in gaining the honorsmay devote himself even more eagerly to what is helpful to the deme,it is decreed: to praise Theokles son of Aglaos for his excellence and his devotion toall the citizens and to the deme of the Halasarnitans, and to crown himwith a gold crown worth 50 gold Alexander-staters; the sacral-administratorsare to contract to inscribe this decree on a stone stele and erect itin the temple of Apollo in Halasarna in the most con-spicuous place.
